Farm Stream is a pathway designed for entrepreneurs who have experience in farm management and financial resources to establish or purchase a farm in Alberta, Canada. The program aims to attract foreign investors who can contribute to the growth of Alberta’s agriculture industry.
Are you eligible to apply for the Alberta Farm Stream?
To be eligible for this program, candidates must have farm management skills and provide proof of their experience, education, training, work experience, or financial documentation of an existing farm business. Candidates must also be able to invest a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta and provide documents to prove their minimum net worth or their ability to access a similar amount of funds from other sources. The proposed farming operation must align with Alberta’s farming industry requirements and be included in a business plan submitted to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

Can I apply for this program if I do not have any farm management experience?
No, candidates must prove they have farm management skills to be eligible for this program. This can be demonstrated through financial documentation of an existing farm business, documentation of education, training and work experience, or a proposed business plan for the farming enterprise in Alberta. Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance the proposed farming business can also be submitted as evidence.
Do I need to have the entire CDN $5,00,000 investment amount upfront to apply?
No, candidates do not need the entire CDN $5,00,000 investment amount upfront to apply. However, they must be able to provide documentation that shows a minimum net worth of CDN $500,000 or confirmation of the ability to access a similar amount of funds from other sources. Additionally, candidates must be able to invest a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta.
Can I apply for this program if I am not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident?
Yes, this program is open to foreign investors who meet the eligibility requirements. However, being nominated under this program does not guarantee permanent residence in Canada. Candidates who are nominated will need to apply for permanent residence through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and meet their eligibility requirements.
