- Emmanuel S. Abellera is a criminal lawyer at Shory Law. Emmanuel obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and his Bachelor of Laws from Saint Louis University. After passing the Philippine Bar Exams in 1997, Emmanuel served in the government, working with the Public Attorney’s Office, a department attached to the Department of Justice. For 13 years, from 1997 to 2010, he worked as a Public Attorney, often referred to as a Public Defender. His clients were primarily impoverished individuals, and he represented and defended them in various legal fields, including criminal law, civil litigation, administrative law, labour, and employment law. Additionally, Emmanuel appeared and litigated at all levels of trial courts in the Philippines. Emmanuel briefly worked as a City Prosecutor in the City of Dagupan between 2008 and 2009 but returned to the Public Attorney’s Office after a year.Emmanuel obtained his Certificate of Qualifications to practice law in Canada in 2013 and was officially certified in 2015. Emmanuel completed his articleship during 2021-2022 while working at Canphil Law. During the interregnum, Emmanuel worked as a Contract Coordinator for Addictions and Mental Health Services at Alberta Health Services.During his articleship, he gained experience in various areas of law, including family law, divorce law, criminal law, real estate, wills and estates, and civil litigation for small claims. He was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta and called to the bar in July 2022. Emmanuel is now an associate lawyer at Shory Law, with focus in criminal law. Emmanuel is a good-standing member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
Emmanuel enjoys cooking for his family, travelling, playing basketball, and going on long drives. He is fluent in English, Tagalog, and Ilokano, a local Filipino dialect. Emmanuel’s passion is to assist the less fortunate members of the community.
