Andrew MacKenzie

Andrew MacKenzie is a criminal defence lawyer, former prosecutor, and former federal public servant. Before joining Shory Law LLP, he worked as a provincial prosecutor in Saskatchewan, where he prosecuted criminal charges including assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, weapons charges, fraud, break and enter, home invasion, and driving charges. He articled in criminal defence in Ontario with an ex-RCMP defence lawyer.

As a defence lawyer Andrew is committed to the thorough and passionate defence of each and every client. His experience has given him unique insight into how to anticipate and counter Crown arguments. He uses the full legal toolbox, including the Charter, to secure positive outcomes for his clients. In addition to his knowledge of the law, Andrew is a compassionate advocate who builds positive relationships with clients of all backgrounds, allowing him to effectively humanize clients and present them at their best before the courts.

Andrew grew up in Toronto but has traveled across Canada and overseas in pursuit of interesting professional opportunities. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Andrew worked for the federal government in Ottawa, where he won a public service award for his work saving taxpayers millions through streamlining the administration of Canada’s old age pension. He also worked in Ankara, Turkey, teaching the high-school-aged children of diplomats and dignitaries from around the world.

In a past life Andrew was a college radio DJ. His musical audience is now mostly limited to his wife and sons.

Andrew has been called to the Bar in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
